The black pecan aphid is a serious pest of pecan foliage. This pest breaks down leaf chlorophyll to feed on the resulting catabolites resulting in leaf chlorosis and potential defoliation. Application of gibberellic acid to pecan foliage mitigates elicitation of leaf chlorosis by the black pecan aphid. Orchard research shows that gibberellic acid can be used for late-season black pecan aphid management when broad spectrum insecticides are used for nut-attacking pests such as pecan weevil and stink bugs.
