Prospects of the newest neuromuscular mode of action, IRAC Group 32, and other insecticidal peptides for SWD management

The most recent (2018) neuromuscular mode of action (IRAC Group 32) and the active ingredient GS-omega/kappa-Hxtx-Hv1a (branded as the SPEAR® technology by Vestaron Corporation) have proven activity against spotted-wing drosophila (SWD, Drosophila suzukii). Herein we share a synthesis of results from laboratory and field studies to assess the prospects and challenges for the bioinsecticide Spear T in SWD management. Based on this, a summary of current best use practices, best lab and field research protocols, knowledge gaps and directions for future research on insecticidal peptides will be presented.
