Trapping networks are an important tool to alert growers of potential pests in their area. The NYS IPM Program coordinates three different trapping networks. The spotted wing drosophila network began in 2012. Data from this network are used to generate distribution maps and alert berry growers of when first trap catch occurs within a county. The field corn trapping network monitors for Wetsern bean cutworm, true armyworm and black cutworm. Trapping data are used to map weekly flights, identify pest hot spots, and develop degree day models. The sweet corn pheromone trapping network traps for five different sweet corn pets. Data are used by growers to make management decisions. All three of the trapping networks have been in existance for 10 or more years. The results from these networks can be used to show pest population trends over time.
