Rickettsia buchneri is the ovarian endosymbiont of the blacklegged tick, Ixodes scapularis. This presentation briefly describes the growth of R. buchneri in all life stages of the tick, its presence or absence in a number of tick tissues, and methods for eliminating the symbiont from the majority of tick offspring.
