Bombus dahlbomii the giant bumblebee is a charismatic and endangered species from Southern South America. Since 2014 we are using citizen science to track this giant bumblebee and the exotic species mainly in Chile. The use of citizen science not only helps us to understand the current distribution of these bee species over the country but also learned from the people about the close relationship between the giant bumblebee B. dahlbomii and the natives, the Mapuche people. Historical, domestic, and spiritual aspects are mentioned, including the use and harvest of honey. We discuss the lost culture of the Mapuche due to the current state of B. dahlbomii.
