Displaying scientific information to the public follows many basic and crucial design rules. Many of these rules are focused on not overwhelming the viewer while also being complex enough to intrigue the viewer to conduct a closer inspection. Typically, this is achieved through a deceptive balance that “tricks” the viewer into learning. Most often however, these displays are created with a science-first mentality. The goal of this project was to develop a permanent sci-comm display piece to present biological information in an artistic way to a broad public, specifically from a more abstract/artistic style-first approach. To this end we have created a biological display at Laramie County Community College focusing on morphological variation within Hexapoda.
