California’s response to the threat of spotted lanternfly
Assistant Director State of California Sacramento, California
Spotted lanternfly, Lycorma delicatula (White 1845), is a recently introduced insect in North America that is rapidly spreading in the eastern United States. California’s pest prevention system is proactively taking multiple measures to mitigate the risk of introduction and establishment of spotted lanternfly within the state. For the past three years, the California Department of Food and Agriculture has been actively engaged in developing protocols, processes, and regulations to safeguard the state from this exotic invasive species. This presentation will outline some of the steps that have been taken to support research efforts, enact new regulations, and prepare responses for Spotted Lanternfly in California.
