Biodegradable films represent an attractive alternative to conventional pesticide chemistries and offer new modes of action for resistance management. One such product, CropCoat®, forms a durable, biodegradable film that camouflages plants from insects. This reduces pest feeding and reproduction, leading to significant constraint and decline of pest populations. Field trials conducted over the past two years in primary apple production areas across the northern US and southern EU show good control of codling moth and other arthropod pests, comparable to that achieved with conventional products, without causing any flaring responses in secondary pests such as mites and aphids.
