Spotted-wing drosophila (SWD), Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura) (Diptera: Drosophilidae) is an insect pest of Asian origin and has expanded its range worldwide over several years. It has emerged as a major pest of small and stone fruits in the United States causing significant crop losses as high as 100%. Management is achieved primarily through preventative insecticide applications, and is particularly challenging in organic production systems due to lack of organically-approved effective insecticides. We conducted studies to evaluate novel products that can be utilized in IPM programs to improve organic management of SWD. Findings of our field and lab studies, and their implications will be presented.
