True armyworm were monitored in 15 rice fields across the Sacramento Valley of California during 2018, 2019, and 2020. Pheromone traps were used to capture male moths. In three sites, laval populations were assessed by doing 10 min searches. Results show two flights of moths during the season, coniciding with the times when armyworm larvae are present in the field and can cause damage. The proportion of moths captured was related to the proportion of larvae found for each sampling date and year. This information can be used to alert rice managers of the best timing to monitor for armyworms in rice.
