My experience in an HBCU and reflections on the diversity and inclusion in the entomology community
Assistant Professor Central State University Wilberforce, Ohio
Dr. Li-Byarlay started her research group in honey bee research in the fall of 2017 at Central State University (CSU). CSU originally began as a department within Wilberforce University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) founded in 1856. CSU is the only public HBCU in the State of Ohio, and the only 1890 Land grant institution in Ohio. In the last few years, research capacity is built on campus for the focus on sustainable agriculture and supporting small and minority farmers in the region. Undergraduate students mentored by the CSU Bee lab have gained a lot of opportunities to conduct hands-on research in the lab and the field.
