Assistant Professor Pennsylvania State University University Park, Pennsylvania
As an entomologist native from a megadiverse country, I was attracted to the science of insects by the beauty and fascinating biology of these creatures. However, throughout my career, my interests and research foci have been shaped by opportunities and the ideas that I have been exposed to as I have moved around between different countries and institutions. In this talk, I will share my experience transitioning from a young entomologist inspired by bee conservation to an assistant professor working in a Land Grant University as an extension specialist on pollinator health. The goals of this talk are to (1) provide an example of why winding career paths are OK, (2) highlight the importance of mentorship and inclusive working environments for successful careers, and (3) emphasize the importance of interdisciplinary and translational research today.
