Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) crops have been widely used for the control of key insect pests of corn, cotton and soybean. In this talk, we discuss how Bt crops can improve Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Nevertheless, a surge of practical resistance to Bt crops is occurring, especially in pests that do not meet the basic assumptions underlying success of the refuge strategy. For such pests, the use of Bt crops needs to be sustainably integrated into IPM programs.
