One would think wearing long sleeves would protect from mosquito bites. Unfortunately, our data suggests that mosquitos have no issue biting through standard garments. The mosquito fascicle is flexible and innervated; it is controlled by delicate musculature and can bend at 90° angles. Stopping this microscopic proboscis is difficult engineering. Our research focuses on engineering single layer compression fabrics capable of blocking mosquito bites. Here we will present our recent research updates and define the structures of mosquito bite blocking textiles. Our goal is simply that in the future, clothing manufacturing will be re-designed to prevent mosquito bites in addition to comfort.
