Obtaining an entomological position in any job sector has become extremely competitive. Skills highly valued in Latin American countries including hard-working, creativity, experience, a high-professional degree, creativity, etc. have become part of the “expectations” for many employers. The high pace of modernization and the increasing challenges to produce food for a growing population bring new opportunities for entomologists but also require new skills and attributes to be on the path of success, including an ability to adapt, advance and transform. By being in a different country and living a different culture, Hispanics had no choice but to adapt, advance and transform. However, labor market statistics consistently show that Hispanics lag behind most of their non-minority, non-Hispanic counterparts in job opportunities. This presentation will review some under-explored attributes that play in tandem with our ability to adapt, advance and transform to tackle entomological challenges and to be on the right track of a thriving entomological career in industry.
