While the global pandemic altered many aspects of higher education, it didn’t reduce the need to provide field experiences and field skills for the next generation of entomologists. Social distancing measures and altered teaching modalities may have complicated logistics; however, it also highlighted ways to increase accessibility and provide novel and meaningful experiences for students. I had the opportunity to teach an aquatic entomology course that pivoted to fully-remote in Spring 2020, a reduced enrollment in-person field-based stream ecology course in Summer 2020, a dual-modality on-campus stream ecology course in Spring 2021, and an in-person field-based entomology course in Summer 2021. I will highlight some of the logistical pitfalls and considerations, as well as those things that were successful and are worth keeping even after the eventual return to regular teaching modalities.
