In this talk I will give a brief introduction to our approach of modelling a naturally ocurring Densovirus in populations of Baltimore Checkerspots (Euphydryas phaeton). This is very preliminary work, but will include some discussion of different modelling frameworks, and the use of a relatively new theoretical tool known as the General Linear Chain Trick for linking stochastic, individual-based continuous time Markov chain type models with their mean-field (e.g., ordinary differential equations model) counterparts.
