Director of Strategic Initiatives Entomological Society of America Annapolis, Maryland
To sustain and grow entomology as a field, as well as to ensure the discipline is reflected in future-facing policy recommendations, we need to engage a variety of stakeholders through policymaking and other outreach. Giving people the tools to communicate their science effectively to help others understand how entomology connects with domestic policy priorities and challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, sustainable agriculture, and vector-borne disease are the first steps to growing our grassroots advocacy. As confidence and experience grows, we hope this will empower more people to engage with other groups, like civic organizations and policymakers. All of these efforts help fulfill ESA’s mission of promoting opportunities for entomologists and enabling them to share their science globally.
