The need to control crop and public health insect pests has been and remains a constant need. While there exists an array of pest insect control approaches, insect control agents remain at the forefront for many pest – crop – geographic situations. The Industry responsible for the discovery and development of insecticidal crop protection compounds has undergone dramatic changes and increasing consolidation over the past 75+ years. Similarly, There have also been notable changes in the rate of introduction of new insecticidal control agents, often in response to resistance to existing insecticidal compounds. This perspective will review patterns in the introduction of historic and current insect control agents against the backdrop of rising cases of insecticide resistance.
