Intense and ongoing globalization of vector borne pathogens and expanding ranges of vectors have created diverse threats to public and veterinary health. Specific and innovative combinations of pesticides, equipment, and techniques need to be investigated and optimized to reduce transmission risk in specific environments and these data immediately accessible to plan sustainable and effective disease-vector control operations. The Mobile Pesticide App brings together an entire portfolio of DWFP-funded research — consisting of diverse scientific publications, technical guides, presentations, and unpublished reports — into easy to use operational pesticide application guidance specific to environment and target insect and easily accessed by stakeholders worldwide. The Mobile Pesticide App uses simple algorithms to present clear guidance points to users structured by queries on environment/ecological region, target insect, pesticide application equipment, pesticide formulation and diluent, and control technique. Guidance points are updated regularly and derived directly from >15 years of DWFP-funded US and internationally collaborative field, semi-field, and laboratory studies of residual and aerosol pesticide and spatial repellent efficacy. The Mobile Pesticide App closes the gap between operational vector control stakeholders and field- and lab-derived findings that are effective, efficient, and sustainable across a range of austere desert, temperate, and tropical environments.
