Structured Decision Making (SDM) is an approach to making management decisions that utilizes decision theory and risk analysis to balance complex objectives under conditions of environmental uncertainty. Management of vector-borne diseases requires decisions that are based on incomplete knowledge of local risk factors and effectiveness of control methods, in situations where different stakeholders often have different priorities. SDM provides a structured planning process that can engage stakeholders in the process of designing optimal integrated management plans for tick-borne pathogens.
