US Environmental Protection Agency Washington, District of Columbia
In recent years, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has become keenly aware of the increasing extent of the problem of pesticide resistance, particularly in agricultural use settings. This presentation focuses on “conventional” pesticides (i.e., those that are not plant-incorporated protectants such as Bt crops) and describes the regulatory context within which the Agency can incorporate its efforts to support implementation of resistance management tactics. It also provides details of labeling guidance that the Agency has provided to pesticide registrants relatively recently. In addition, an update is presented on EPA’s efforts this year to develop collaboration with other stakeholders, including registrants, growers, as well as research and extension experts, to develop new approaches to foster the implementation of effective resistance management. The Agency is committed to supporting product stewardship that enhances the long-term sustainability of pesticide effectiveness.
