Unraveling the historical biogeography of island damselflies (Odonata: Coenagrionidae: Vanuatubasis)

Despite the important role of the South Pacific in previous biogeographic studies, the island archipelago of Vanuatu has largely been overlooked. Here, we use the highly endemic damselfly genus, Vanuatubasis, to reconstruct a phylogeny and test hypotheses of colonization within the island system. Our results greatly increase our current understanding of the origins and movement of fauna within Vanuatu as well as highlight importance of Vanuatu in resolving broader biogeographic patterns across the South Pacific.
