Lycaenids are small butterflies that are often brilliantly colored with iridescent blue, orange, and red markings. The King’s Hairstreak, a state endangered species in Maryland, has been reported on the eastern shore of Maryland and Delaware, southward along the Atlantic Coast to Florida. We aimed to conduct a habitat assessment in order to provide the first quantitative survey of this species in Maryland. We used current and historical sites to locate larvae and adults, as well as King’s Hairstreak’s host plant, Common Sweetleaf (Symplycos tinctorial). We recorded potential threats to their habitat and provide data for the management of the species.
