A longitudinal analysis of doctoral entomology graduates over the last twenty years provided insight into employment placement. Females tended to spend more time in postdoctoral appointments before moving on to permanent positions, were less likely to obtain positions as entomology tenure-track faculty, and were much less likely to work in industry than were males. Males published more papers during graduate school than did females, and were first authors of papers more frequently than were females. Overall, this study supplies much-needed information on planning for entry into professional entomology, and how diversity plays a role.
