Project Director American Association for the Advancement of Science Washington, District of Columbia
In this talk, I share strategies scientsts can use to begin or enhance their science communication journeys. I discuss how communication within academia differs from communication intended for a non-technical audience. This talk shares several resources available to the audience to learn more about effective science writing, journalism, and communication, opportunities for finding others interested in science communication, and outlets that might be appropriate places to develop science writing skills. Lastly, I talk about the AAAS Mass Media Science & Engineering Fellowship, a 10-week summer opportunity that allows science students and postdocs to immerse themselves in science journalism at news outlets across the country.
