The North American Dipterists Society and the 10th International Congress of Dipterology (ICDX)

We present a short history of the North American Dipterists Society from its formation in 1988 up to the present day, showing its growth from a regional group to its current role as an international society promoting the study of Diptera worldwide. Particular attention is given to recent developments and vision for the society, including reasons for its incorporation as a non-profit organization, and the major update and expansion of the society’s website (now under a new website address https://dipterists.org). The resources provided there are discussed, including a Directory of World Dipterists, a dipterists mailing list-server, society publications, and an extensive list of resources for dipterists. We also discuss plans to develop the society and its mission to promote dipterology around the globe (including grants and awards) and opportunities for membership in the society. Details on the upcoming tenth International Congress of Dipterology, being held in Reno NV (16-21 July, 2023) are also presented, including information on included symposia, post-congress tours, and nearby venues of interest to dipterists.
