Translating entomological science to effective consumer products: Trapping flies

The USDA and many Universities have invested significant time and money into understanding the physiology and behavior of urban and household flying insects such as the house fly, Musca domestica, the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, and various gnats and midges (e.g., Sciaridae). Despite the vast investment, few if any, effective products exist today for the chronic management of these insects within the household setting.  This report describes the importance of translating first-principle entomological understanding to real-world applications and how this impacts capturing flies in consumers homes.
