EPA-registered pesticide products are an important part of pest management programs to accomplish control of invertebrate public health pests. The Agency has recently revised several guidelines to assist in the development of appropriate protocols to test product efficacy in support of pesticide registration. EPA Product Performance Test Guideline 810.3500 Premises Treatments was revised and published in 2019. EPA Product Performance Test Guidelines 810.3100 Treatments for Imported Ants and 810.3300 The Efficacy of Topically Applied Pet Products Against Certain Invertebrate Pests were revised and published in 2021. The guidelines were revised to increase clarity and consistency in efficacy testing and to include current scientific standards. The strategy for revisions and what is covered (and not covered) in the revised guidelines will be discussed. Future guidelines work may include the revision of guidelines related to wide area mosquito control products (810.3400), skin applied repellents (810.3700), structural termiticides (810.3600), and termite baits (810.3800), in addition to creating new guidance for spatial repellents, impregnated clothing, and emerging technologies such as ATSBs (Attractive Toxic Sugar Baits), mosquito-disseminated products, and Genetically Modified mosquitoes.
