The Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), is perhaps one of the most damaging and persistent insect pests of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.). Historically, L. decemlineata has developed resistance to more than 50 different insecticides mode of actions and current efforts are focusing on finding new genetic material to be incorporated in potato  breeding programs. To help this effort, a 2-yr field evaluated how ten potato varieties responded infestations of L. decemlineata. The following varieties were tested: F14085, Echo Russet, Payette Russet, Castle Russet, Dakota Diamond, Clearwater Russet, Russet Norkotah, Alturas Russet, Russet Burbank and Shepody. Field experiments were set up as a randomized complete block design with four replications per variety. Two blocks, each with ten varieties, one block with imidacloprid at planting and one without, were planted  set side by side. Weekly, the number of L. decemlineata egg masses, larvae, and adults were monitored; plant defoliation (%) was also estimated. Plots were taken to yield. Based on level of infestation, preliminary results showed that Echo Russet and Clearwater Russet (F value: 8.62, df: 9, p value: L. decemlineata.
