Broward county is home to many native and introduced species such as Prepona laertes (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae). This species was once a hosted specimen within the confines of Butterfly World in Tradewinds Park but in the mid 2000’s became established in the surrounding area. Cocoplum (Chrysobalanus icaco) a host plant to P. laertes, is one of the most commonly used plants in landscaping throughout residential, commercial and municipal areas as well as a common plant throughout southern Florida. Therefore P. laertes has the potential to become a widespread economic pest. We present the findings of our recent survey to delineate the current range of P. laertes.
